It’s crazy how fast time passes by; I can vividly remember when the pandemic was announced and how businesses reacted. Some businesses succumbed to it, some operated as if it didn’t exist, and some businesses implemented innovative approaches to ensure that business safely (keyword) continued. In-Shape Family Fitness (formerly known as California Family Fitness) did a great job of pivoting by moving all of its equipment outdoors. Yes there were some challenges with having equipment outdoors (i.e., being subjected to the current weather, the poor air quality due to nearby fires, and the occasional bug on equipment); however, it kept the facility in operation and allowed for us die-hard “athletes” to keep our bodies in shape. With that being said I have been at this facility for four years and there are many reasons why I retain my membership, the following is one of the reasons why.

Since I have been a member at In-Shape Family Fitness, I have noticed that the gym has made both subtle and not so subtle upgrades. The subtle upgrades being bringing in newer equipment to replace older equipment and having rare equipment such as having a Deadlift Bar Jack that makes it easier to load and unload a barbell. The non-subtle upgrade being the recent transformation of the gym’s floor plan. Previous to the revamp, equipment such as dumbbells were located in two different areas in the gym, equipment was fairly close to one another (cramped), and there was very little open space (this made it hard to find an area to stand without impending on another member’s personal space). Post-revamp the dumbbells are in one central location, equipment has an adequate amount of space away from other equipment, and there is so much open space that you can grab an exercise mat and do a workout in almost any area on the main floor without fear of injuring yourself and/or another member.

Although there were some temporary inconveniences, the facility did a great job of staying in operation while being under construction. This was a big win for me because the next closest In-Shape Family Fitness (close to Interstate 5) is not convenient for me to access. Even though monthly dues have increased since signing up in 2020, it makes total sense when you see the upgrades that have been made to the gym (and that continue to be made) since I became a member. By no means am I being insensitive about the fact that inflation has made it difficult for many people to hang onto luxuries such as a gym membership, I’m just making an observation.

Big THANK YOU to facility manager Brandon and assistant manager Antonio for successfully facilitating such a large project. Also, I want to give a big shout-out to customer service representatives Jeremy and Shirley for never being too cool to consistently + warmly acknowledge members as they enter and leave the facility. It’s these little gestures of kindness that keep members like me coming back…keep up the good work In-Shape Family Fitness Bond Road!

Super-easy to become a member of online. Perfect gym & perfect equipment. Perfect hours and access!!!! I just moved to the Sacramento area, and it took a few months for me to fully transition, but during that time Rachel checked in on me and encouraged me. She really supported me. She made an appointment for me to come in and talk with her. She was truly a blessing. She was patient with me and was/continues to be a beautiful person. My encounters with other workers at in-Shape has been phenomenal. Everyone has been so nice. Telling me how to get around until I learn my way around.

Good gym, plenty of amenities. It does get crowded, and there seem to be an increasing number of people that don't rerack their weights or wipe down the machines after they're done. I don't blame the staff for that, though, as I have seen them doing their best to keep it clean quite often.

I came in to workout yesterday and their locker rooms were closed so I asked if there’s any other place I can leave my gym bag. They directed me to the front desk and I asked the lady that was working up there (Leslie Cisneros) to show me where to leave it, she said she told me where I can find it. I couldn’t find it so I came back and asked her is she could show me and walk me to it and she was extremely rude and said I have to wait for another worker to show me. I didn’t end up working out because no one ever showed me a locker room and she was rude and didn’t want to do her job. I have been a member for 10 years, but they have had several issues with the workers , they’re extremely disrespectful and rude, and that was my last straw toward cancelling my membership.

Nice and clean gym under new management. The new management is doing a lot of renovations. There are tons of exercise machines here. Some machines I never see anyone ever using and some machines are difficult to get your hands on because someone is always using it. They should get rid of machines not used frequently and add the once people tend to use more often.

Urinals and stalls are always out of order, the sauna has been down a month, parasites & MOLD in the showers, gym equipment that's been down for months, regularly missing basics like gand soap, toilet paper, and paper towels. We should be getting 10% off because that's the percentage of equipment broken. Worse hours of any gym STEP IT UP!

Clubs is so dirty. Dust is everywhere. Dusty balloons ? hanging from celling since they opened 25 years ago. I been member since opening. No one clean the equipment. Some time same towel paper stuck in treadmills water holes for weeks at a time. Reported to employee. You know what is their answer it’s a busy place. They do not help checking in but they 3 hosts stand in front looking outside. They should be cleaning or at least listen the complaints. But no one cares. Just dirty smiles.

This is the first gym that I've gone to, and I love it. It has lots of machines and free weights. But there's always some machines that have been out of order for weeks, some months.
