Training with Bethany

I highly recommend training with Bethany for anyone who is interested in a more mindful, focused and efficient way to structure your strength and climbing training. I’ve always just “climbed” and not thought too much about how I was training or how it would affect my overall climbing. Bethany took my amorphous desire to improve and helped me tailor my goals to more concrete outcomes. She also assessed and tailored my workouts to my skill level. We were able to focus on areas of improvement, and at the same time, she explained simply and easily the workouts, their purpose, their effect on my body. As we went, Bethany carved out time to explain things like energy systems and how to train them. I’m a person who loves to know what I am doing and its purpose. So this made all the difference for me and it is all information that I can use moving forward with my training efforts.

I started training with Bethany a few months ago and have seen huge improvements in not just my strength and coordination, but also my focus, and my strategy in approaching how I climb. For example, Bethany worked closely with me on my “head game” or mental aspects of climbing and ways to move past my fears of falling and clipping by integrating a new way of approaching the climb. She also helped me focus on areas of my body that have always felt weak but I haven’t really known how to train, like my hips and mid-back. She observed my range of motion and movement and tailored exercises to target those areas — all virtual by the way, which is impressive!

Bethany is great to work with, both encouraging and motivating. She answered all my random questions and has made a huge difference in how I approach climbing as a sport as well as how I approach even daily movement/exercise.

Again, cannot recommend highly enough.

I have had the pleasure of working with Bethany for several months. I had worked with a trainer previously where I lived before moving to the area, so I know the value! Bethany understands my age, my goals and my limitations and knows how to train me as an individual. She is motivating and inspiring and has been so flexible and creative during the Covid period on helping me keep my workouts going. I am stronger and in better shape because of her knowledge and process and actually look forward to workouts with her.

I have only been training with Bethany for a couple of months, but what a difference it has made! By focusing her exercises on muscle groups that climbers tend to either neglect (like lower body) or not train properly (like core), she has proven to me that you don’t need complicated exercises or access to a full gym to get stronger. I feel like I am in better climbing shape than I was before COVID, and I owe that to Bethany’s guidance and expertise. Thanks for getting me psyched to train again, Bethany, and I am excited to keep working with you!

Bethany - I can not tell you how much I have enjoyed our personal training. You are always great to understand my goals and really design every session to help me meet those goals of getting stronger. You always gently push me to go beyond where I think I can be to where you know I can be. I can definitely tell through my training that everyday tasks such as lifting and moving items, yard work and pretty much any labor intensive tasks are easier with my increased strength and flexibility." - Meredith

Bethany - the workouts we have been doing for the past few months have been fantastic. They are challenging and focus on specific muscles in ways I have not trained before. I think before training with you, I would make exercises quite complex and not really understand what muscles I was trying to train. This, in the end, was not efficient. But, since working with you, I understand how to isolate muscles, and do exercises that target specifically what I want to work on. I love working with you and plan to continue for the foreseeable future!

I met Bethany at a free training session. She taught me to focus on the muscle the exercise was for. I liked her style of training and realized how much she could teach me about exercising. I have continued working with her twice a month. Prior to meeting her my gym routine was boring. Not effective. Since I started working with her I have lost weight, gained strength and balance. I have learned many different exercises. She changes the routine based on activities I am going to be doing. I enjoy going to the gym now because of her and the knowledge she has shared with me. Tips on eating have been an added bonus.

I did a Styku scan at the beginning of our working together. I do one every month. It is easy to do. Styku measures many parts of your body and calculates body fat. She compares prior scans to a current scan. Another way to encourage you when you can see the actual progress in the inches you have lost.

Bethany is wonderful to work with. I always look forward to my training sessions with her.

Adam has extensive knowledge and experience with athletes in widely varied sports and ability levels. I have worked with him for almost ten years for conditioning for alpine and cross country skiing, alpine hiking and general fitness maintenance. I count on Adam to consistently challenge me, but I trust that he is very careful to avoid crossing the line to injury. The recent pandemic has resulted in moving to a video format which Adam and Bethany were instrumental in adopting, and I still am seeing the same results.

I was really hesitant to hire a trainer. I have some health issues and have been told I have exercise intolerance and to be very careful to not ‘overdo’ (I was skeptical - but yes it is really a thing). Sometimes a muscle or multiple muscles just get extreme fatigue and or weakness like I haven’t worked them in years or I get really off balance and dizzy. I enjoy being active and really really wanted to build strength.

Last December I met with Bethany. In talking to her I realized she not only knew how to build muscle strength but she had a well versed knowledge of human anatomy, she was actually familiar with my particular health issues and best of all, she wasn’t judgmental and seemed very patient and kind. Win win right?!?!

It did turn out to be a win win. I’ve been working with her regularly for over 6 months now. To start with she used MAT (Muscle Activation Techniques) to identify where my weaknesses were/are. Then she tailored some exercises to help isolate and build strength in my weakest areas. She has been patiently teaching me how to use all the equipment properly as well as my own body weight with a wide variety of exercises. She never uses just the same old routine. Each time she has something new to try and new ways to do the same old thing. She’s helped me through times when I’ve had physical flares and encouraged me. While she herself is obviously very fit and strong she has never been intimidating or impatient. She is never critical or condescending.

She also has a good grasp on nutrition and has helped me on several occasions when I’ve been stuck with my diet and has had some really good advice. Also not an easy task as I have a lot of diet restrictions.

I have seen a HUGE improvement in my overall strength and health. She judged my speed just right and pushed me using my pace. She has helped me work through a dislocated rib (cause by something I did on my own). And she has helped me see successes even during those times of discouragement when I don’t see them. I’m so grateful for all the help above and beyond what I expected! Thank you Bethany! You’re the best!
